Dear friends,

Welcome! Since 2020, hundreds have shared their stories with me: stories of difficulty finding a parish home, being pushed away by certain leaders, or being asked not to talk about something they experienced. I’ve known some of those pains, but I truly love being Catholic and so walking with you has become my mission. Many of these stories required immense courage and deserve to be heard.

For those who have found themselves disciplined before the parish truly understood their experiences and struggles, Catholic theology offers profound guidance.

Catholic means universal and it truly is for everyone. In our faith, no one is truly unwanted. But that’s not how it always feels in practice. Especially for those at Mass who are gay, divorced and remarried, and even those of us who once attended the Latin Mass.

The feeling of being “unwanted” is a deeply theological intuition. But the good news is that if you have ever felt this way, Catholic theology can be your source of hope and encouragement. Since the time of Jesus, our theology related to the human person has been unfolding and deepening, slowly and organically. It has never been static, but we also never throw out “old” teachings. We stay Catholic by going deeper, a process rigorously explored by saints like John Henry Newman and Vincent de Lérins. The sacraments, too, teach us how to encounter Christ in the life we are blessed with, and not the one we wish we had. The people of God, across all generations, ultimately hope to see God more clearly through their own struggles and pains.

I want you to love being Catholic and find healing. Let’s explore how theology matters for you.
