Dear friends,
Welcome! Since 2020, hundreds have shared their stories with me: stories of difficulty finding a parish home, being pushed away by certain leaders, or being asked not to talk about something they experienced. I’ve known some of those pains, but I truly love being Catholic and so walking with you has become my mission. Many of these stories required immense courage and deserve to be heard.
For those who have found themselves disciplined before the parish truly understood their experiences and struggles, Catholic theology offers profound guidance.
Catholic means universal and it truly is for everyone. In our faith, no one is truly unwanted. But that’s not how it always feels in practice. Especially for those at Mass who are gay, divorced and remarried, and even those of us who once attended the Latin Mass.
Feeling “unwanted” is not a defect of faith—it is a deeply theological intuition. Catholic tradition is never static; since the early Church, our understanding of the human person has unfolded organically. As St. John Henry Newman and St. Vincent of Lérins showed, the Church remains faithful not by freezing in place, but by pressing deeper into the mystery of Christ. The sacraments anchor this reality: they do not demand the idealized life we wish we had, but meet us in the concrete, vulnerable life we actually live. Across every generation, the people of God discover that our deepest wounds can become the exact places where grace is revealed.
”This book can accompany anyone who wants to reconcile their faith and their identity and is looking for a home and acceptance in the church… Those who strive for holiness sometimes take a great personal risk, and the Church is slowly learning to support this search and accompany people on this lifelong journey.”
-Bishop Felix Gmür, Diocese of Basel
